Elderhostel, founded in 1975, is a nonprofit educational travel organization for adults ages 55 and over. It provides learning adventures throughout the United States and Canada and in more than 90 countries around the world. It enrolls more than 160,000 people in over 8,000 programs annually. The organization offers various educational field trips, excursions and a variety of activities to gain an insider s perspective on history, heritage, culture and environment of the United States. The groups stay in motels, hotels and conference center facilities. It also offers college- and university-based programs that provide on-campus housing, such as faculty apartments and suites.
